Readiness Of Public Election Knowledge Ahead Of The 2024 Democracy Party

The excitement and excitement approaching one year of the election can already be felt. Several names of presidential candidates and legislative members have begun to be announced by each political party. Various preparations for the implementation of the election that have been prepared by the KPU (General Election Commission) and each party need to be accompanied by public knowledge of the election so that public participation is high.

Indonesian people's knowledge of elections is currently considered to be ready, as evidenced by the results of a Populi Center survey which revealed that almost three-quarters (71.9 percent) of Indonesians know that in 2024 there will be an election consisting of the Presidential Election (Pilpres) and the Legislative Election (Pileg).

The readiness of public election knowledge is obtained from the public's habits in accessing political information. As many as 68.1 percent of Indonesians access political information, the percentage consists of 32.3 percent of people who access political information every day, 24.2 percent access information once a week, 11.7 percent access political information once a month, while more than one in four Indonesians (30.3 percent) stated that they never access political information.

Political information is obtained by the majority of the public from digital media (62.4 percent), consisting of 33.5 percent of Indonesians using social media to obtain political information, 28.2 percent of people know political information from advertisements broadcast on television, and 0.7 percent from advertisements on the radio. Meanwhile, 12.1 percent of people are more comfortable using conventional media to obtain political information, including information from billboards/banners (11.3 percent) and advertisements in newspapers (0.8 percent). Family, friends, and religious groups also contribute to providing political information, but the share is relatively small at less than 10 percent.

Social media has become the highest source of information in influencing the election knowledge of the Indonesian people due to the high number of social media users which has an impact on the process of exchanging and spreading ideas or concepts, to form information that is easy to disseminate quickly and without limits. The characteristics of social media communication are also a supporting factor, social media users can play a role in influencing social media users around them.

Social media as a dominant source of political information is used by young voters aged 18-35 years. Meanwhile, the older generation aged over 46 years old learns about the election preparation process through television advertisements. The difference in information sources used by the younger generation and the older generation in searching for political information proves that each media has its own target market, but still has the same goal, namely to provide knowledge of the implementation of the election evenly to all groups.

The results of this survey are accompanied by data on the high level of Indonesian people's participation plans for the implementation of the democratic party one year from now. As many as 96.6 percent of Indonesians said they would use their voting rights in the upcoming 2024 election, while 1.4 percent of people chose not to use their voting rights (golput), 1.9 percent of people said they could not decide at this time, and 0.2 people refused to answer.

However, the readiness of the Indonesian people's election knowledge is mostly not balanced by the action of checking whether they are registered as prospective voters or not. Only a small portion of the community (22.4 percent) has checked whether or not they are registered as prospective voters in the upcoming 2024 election.

The readiness of public election knowledge accompanied by the high level of public participation plans in the upcoming election proves that socialization of election implementation is important to implement. Socialization is packaged into information that is disseminated through social media, television and radio, and billboards which are effective because they are easily accessible to the public.

It should be noted that the implementation of the election is not only preparing a way to increase the popularity and electability of candidates from each party in order to win the most votes. However, the main capital that is also important to note is preparing the election knowledge of the Indonesian people by providing election information.

It is undeniable that information has a crucial role in the implementation of the upcoming 2024 elections, because people who are not well informed have the potential to not participate in the upcoming elections. Moreover, according to (Lutz, 2006) an informed society is one of the important requirements for democratic stability.
